American-Israeli Empire Unleashes War of Annihilation Against Iran
The next episode in the war on Iran has begun. This time, the US imperialists brought an armada to wage their savage war of aggression.
America and Israel have struck Iran in a cowardly, unprovoked act of aggression.
This came after a massive weeks-long military buildup of dozens of American warships, hundreds of planes, and thousands of personnel flowed into the Gulf region. Trump administration officials conducted fake negotiations to try to distract the Iranian diplomats, who were notably willing to make concessions. Since the previous 12-day episode in June of last year, Iranian officials certainly knew that Trump was full of shit and was just distracting from the fact that they were obviously getting ready to launch an offensive. It should be well known by now that the imperialist American military doesn’t move billions of dollars in assets to the other side of the world just to make peace deals. Even if a deal were somehow struck, using gunboat diplomacy to force concessions is a classic tool of the imperialist dogs in the White House, regardless of the administration.
On the morning of February 28th, 2025, missiles pierced through the skies of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah, destroying government facilities, military bases, airbases, and civilian areas. Iran has every right to defend itself from this illegal and barbaric ambush. As Lenin said in 1915, “Every socialist would sympathize with the victory of the oppressed, dependent, unequal states against the oppressing, slave-owning, predatory ‘Great’ Powers.”
This is the consequence of imperialism. A sadistic massacre of children at a girls’ school in Minab, Iran, has killed 148 people, including at least 85 students. The American-Israeli regime has no regard for diplomacy, life, or the most innocent. These children have no value to the imperialist war machine; they are simply tools for terrorizing the Iranian people, hoping they are too afraid to resist. They were children with dreams and bright futures, just like any other child in Europe, the Americas, Asia, or Africa. Imagine the horror that is felt across America when a disturbed school shooter senselessly murders dozens of children in cold blood for no reason. Think of the families that have a hole torn through them in an instant. And to grasp the gravity of this attack, this single missile attack was more deadly than any school shooting in American history. This is what America does to the world.
A teacher standing just outside the school heard the missile blast. Running into the school, she describes, “I felt like I had gone mute. I couldn’t speak. You could hear the sound of children crying and screaming.”
A report quoted Mohammed Shariatmadar, a man whose 6-year-old daughter was killed in the attack, saying, “I cannot understand how a place where innocent children learn can be bombed like this. We are talking about small children who knew nothing of politics or wars. And yet they are the ones paying the highest price.” In this town, there are two elementary schools, one for girls, one for boys, and now almost all the girls have been traumatized, severely injured, or killed.
In the afternoon, images showed rescuers and community members digging through the rubble, with waning hope of finding survivors. In one video, a man is holding torn-up notebooks and the severed hand of a little girl covered in dust from the collapse. He says, “If the Zionist regime thinks that with these crimes it can distance us from Islam, from our faith, from God, and from our Prophet— it is gravely mistaken. We have seen many such crimes before.” Crying now, he says, “My feeling is that she was faithful. Look at her hand, just look at it. I doubt she was more than six or seven years old. Look at this hand. Look at this child. My dear people, look closely. Now the Zionist regime has proven— it has proven itself. Let the world see. Let the world witness this crime. The world must see this crime. Look carefully, those who claim to stand for freedom, look at this child of ours who came this morning simply to study.”
Out of the rubble, rescuers piled up the backpacks of students, many still soaked in blood. A video from the scene shows papers and school supplies lying across the ground, covered in dust and debris. The people helping, doing what little they can, appear shocked, unable to comprehend what they just witnessed.
In a separate incident, the American-Israeli regime struck a children’s sports center in the town of Lamerd later in the day. This attack killed 18 civilians and wounded over 100 in this building where innocent children were playing. Being just two of many incidents, America and Israel are deliberately waging a war of terror. These are highly targeted strikes aimed at civilians to create chaos; they have nothing to do with ‘defending Americans’ or the delusional notion that the strikes were ‘preemptive.’ This is nothing short of terrorism— a term that the fascist American government gracelessly lobs at anyone who opposes it, even American citizens.
Trump and Netanyahu want nothing short of ‘regime change,’ precisely the disastrous goal of the Iraq War, which resulted in a brutal war that devastated the country, destabilized the region, and killed millions of innocent civilians. Contrary to some ‘progressive’ commentators, no one is being ‘dragged into this war.’ There is a subsection of ‘anti-war’ journalists and politicians who want to portray the situation as if Israel is the only party at the wheel, or that ‘Israel controls America.’ It must be reiterated that Israel didn’t ‘push’ America into war; this was planned months ago. Whether intentional or not, that chauvinistic framing only serves to obfuscate the American death cult where politicians of both parties celebrate bombs dropping on the heads of children. The Washington Post put out a report trying to add water to this false sentiment that Israel and Saudi Arabia lobbied to push Trump into striking Iran, even saying the Saudi Prince had multiple phone calls beforehand. This is completely discredited by the fact that billions in equipment were already moved into the Middle East while Trump and the Republicans casually escalated rhetoric about regime change. The overwhelming majority of the US government wants and has wanted this for decades, you don’t need to ask them twice. This is what America does— genocidal imperialism.
With the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an airstrike today, the reality of regime change seems more and more likely. While his death does not mean the total collapse of Iran, it could only be a matter of time. There is still a robust command structure that will allow Iran to continue to counterattack, but with the loss of more and more commanders, they may struggle to maintain civility. As it stands, there seems to be no end more than there seems to be a possible end.
The only expedient end is if Iran can inflict enough pain on Israel with missiles to force a ceasefire. However, it’s not clear if Iran has recovered its supply from last year enough to carry out prolonged strikes. The conflict last June ended only because Iran sent enough material to Israel for its Iron Dome defense system to run out of interceptors, allowing them to potentially pummel them at will, prompting the US to get involved. This time, things are different. There is a far greater military threat posed by the US Navy and the number of targets it has to strike. Already, Iran has made good on its promise to strike the Gulf states that have aided the United States and Israel by stationing military bases and docking warships. At this point, it is a war to disrupt commerce in the Strait of Hormuz, try to impact oil prices, and disrupt tourism, so more countries put pressure on the US to stop the war.
It must be said that Ali Khamenei’s incompetence in not acquiring a nuclear weapon for almost four decades led directly to this moment. The only other way Iran could’ve stopped this onslaught was if they established deterrence last June, to which they backed off rather than continuing their attacks to force better peace terms. By acquiring a nuclear weapon, either by rapidly speeding up development or getting one from Russia or Pakistan, Iran would create guaranteed deterrence from direct attacks, and the only other threat would be from internal sabotage.
Khamenei is no one to celebrate; however, he at least deserves praise for fighting zionism and American imperialism. Against the campist position, it’s wrong to celebrate the life of a fervent anti-communist who helped defeat the real revolution in Iran. When the 1979 workers’ revolution was set to free the people of Iran from both capitalist exploitation and religious fundamentalism, Islamists led by Ayatollah Khomeini and his lieutenant Khamenei hijacked the momentum and centralized power. By 1981, there was a nationwide crackdown on leftists, including arrests, executions, and forced confessions, targeting the Tudeh Party and Fedayeen. Despite being the driving force behind the revolution in factories, universities, and the middle class, organized communist influence was effectively dismantled in Iran by 1983.
We must have unflinching solidarity with the people of Iran. As leftists, we need to be resolute that anti-America is not an ideology. Blind campism is not enough. This does not at all diminish the fact that America is nothing less than a malignant cancer on this beautiful Earth, but if you have no theory of change, you will never achieve liberation. Pursuing Communism, based on the theories of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and other incredible thinkers, is the only way we can put power in the hands of the people and free ourselves from the exploitation of capital and religious authority. We must fight to free the workers of the world, not the lesser-evil heads of state. With that said— All power to the workers! We have nothing to lose but our chains!
